After starting 5-0 last week, the weekday games were incorrect to a whole new level. I thought I knew things, but I clearly didn’t. The bowl record currently stands at 6-4. The best part there are 3 more games today and one game on Sunday to change course. Some picks may be made on twitter, so be sure to follow me @thelastsnap_.But here is the slate for this Saturday.
Texas Tech vs. USF
Bowl: Birmingham Bowl | Time: 11 AM CT
Line: USF -2
Both Texas Tech and USF have potent offenses ranking at 26 and 14 respectively and both are led by exceptional QB’s. The Red Raiders are led by QB Nic Shimonek with 3500 yards, 30 TDs and only 8 interceptions in one of the best Air Raid offenses in the country. The Bulls are let by dual threat QB Quentin Flowers who has 2600 yards, 21 TDS with 6 interceptions in the air and just under 1000 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. I wont be surprised if this game hits the over, both teams are offensive juggernauts. The key to this game is that USF has one of the best scoring defenses and one of the best passing defenses in the country. Texas Tech ranks 10th in the country and 1st in the Big 12 in turnovers. USF wins by a TD, but also bet the over, you won’t lose both.
San Diego State vs. Army
Bowl: Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl | Time: 2:30 PM CT
Line: Under 45.5
Both these teams love to run the ball. SDSU has a 2000 yard rusher in Rashaad Penny and Army is led by QB Ahmad Bradshaw who rushed for 1500 yards and 12 TDs. Army really doesnt like to pass the ball, passing for only 355 yards on the season, but still amassing 4600 yards on the season and managing to gain 6.09 yards a play and 46 TDs. San Diego State is only a hair better, with 4900 yards on the season and 6.18 yards a play, running the ball 61 percent of the time. Each team is only going to get the ball 5 or 6 times and not every chance will be a score, as each team has a respectable defense. The play would be to take the under at 45.5 points and expect a low scoring game fought in the trenches. Pair that with SDSU +6.5, you wont lose both.
Appalachian State vs. Toledo
Bowl: Dollar General Bowl | Time: 6 PM CT
Line: App State +6.5
Last year, App State beat Toledo in the Camellia Bowl last year 31-28, and take the bowl rivalry to the Dollar General Bowl this year. Expect a similar game out of the two teams this year. Toledo is a high powered offense, but has slowed down since last year. The Rockets still went 11-2 and won the MAC. App State did go 8-4 on the season, but went 7-1 to share the conference championship with Troy. However, in December, Toledo is 1-4, and 1-4 in non-conference games. App State is rolling into the Bowl game, beating their last 3 opponents 121 to 30. App State may lost this game, but should cover the spread.
Fresno State vs. Houston
Bowl: Hawai’i Bowl | Time: 7 PM, Sunday
Line: Pick made on Twitter. Sunday Morning.
