Morning Grinders: April 30th

Welcome to the new series called Morning Grinders. A lot of us are up in the morning for work or school and we all know that until lunch time, it is a struggle. If you are stuck on that late train to work, in that boring 8 AM lecture or taking that morning bathroom break, this blog is for you. I will cover everything from sports to entertainment to keep you up to date with whats going on. But most importantly, I will find a way to get you through that morning grind.

In case you weren’t able to stay glued to the TV, this weekend was a big weekend for both the NHL and NBA playoffs. In the NBA, the Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 7 of the opening round behind a 26 point game from Terry Rozier who erupted in the 4th quarter. The Celtics will play Philadelphia today at 7 PM. The Cleveland Cavaliers, closed out an ugly series with the Indiana Pacers and will play Toronto, the top seed in the East, Tuesday night. In the Western conference, the Houston Rockets outmatched the Jazz on Sunday afternoon and the Warriors blew past the Pelicans on Saturday night. The two teams are poised for a collision course in the Western Conference Finals, barring an upset.

In the NHL, the San Jose Sharks evened the series with the Las Vegas Golden Knights. After falling 7-0 in Game 1 of the second round, San Jose played strong on the ice even without their two best players, Joe Thornton and Evander Kane. Kane comes back in Game 3 as the series moves to San Jose. The Boston Bruins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 in Game 1 on Saturday night, the Washington Capitals beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 to even the series and send it back to Pittsburgh for Game 3 and it took 2 overtimes for the Nashville Predators to beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 and tie the series at one a piece on Sunday night.

The NFL draft finished this weekend, with the Browns picking Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield as the top pick. This clearly brings back memories of Johnny Manziel’s saga with the Browns. Both players have similar qualities and the entire football world will be on edge all off season, watching the development of the young QB and making sure he doesn’t get into trouble of the field. Other teams of note were the Ravens who traded around on Day 1, and landed Louisville QB Lamar Jackson as the last pick in the first round, the Panthers who grew their receiving core to help QB Cam Newton, and Tampa Bay who made impressive picks to strengthen their defense including a steal in the third round with corner Carlton Davis. The Bears however were the best team coming out of the draft, picking LB Roquan Smith in the first round and offensive lineman James Daniels and receiver Anthony Miller in the second. Look out for my full review of the draft for the Bears, San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers later this week.

In entertainment news, Avengers: Infinity War killed in the box office this weekend and had a bigger opening weekend than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With Deadpool 2, Antman and Wasp, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Incredibles 2 coming out this summer, this will be another blockbuster season for Disney.

Lastly, I want to leave you with the song of the day. Post Malone just came out with a banger of an album, his music style is completely different that what we are used. From start to finish, this album is a master piece and a must listen. Check out the album below:
