Morning Grinders: May 9th

Lets keep this grind going. It’s hump day and the weekend can’t come fast enough.

College Football

This is one of the most exciting capstone projects I have seen and it comes to us from the cadets from West Point Academy. The engineers had the opportunity to design a refresh of Army’s Michie Stadium. Take a look:

As an engineer and a football fan, this is a really cool crossroads. To be part of this must have been a once in a lifetime experience.

Staying on this topic, the Liberty Bowl is another target of stadium renovations. The Memphis city council has approved a $2.5 million dollar project to renovate the home locker room at the stadium. Often looked over, bowl stadiums are not kept in the best conditions and generally have pretty decrepit conditions. The University of Memphis also uses the stadium during the season so this will be a hearty welcome in time for the 2018-19 season.

In other news, Nebraska will wear Adidas cleats this upcoming season with money emojis. I know the latest demographic is to cater to the millennials and Generation Z, but these shoes are gross. Adidas has a record of designing terrible apparel, just check out their jersey’s from last year here. University of Washington switched to Adidas this off season and Huskie fans should take note of what they signed up for.

NFL

Not a good sign for the Saints RB Mark Ingram, who was just suspended for 4 games for violating the NFL’s policy for performance enhancing drugs. Ingram was in his contract year and roiding up for it is clearly a high risk/high reward move. The Saints do have Alvin Kamara who will easily replace Ingram as the starter. Last season Kamara and Ingram had 1,500 yard and 12 TD’s a piece, so it’s unlikely that the Saints will miss a beat during Ingram’s suspension.

This year the New York Giants drafted Penn State RB Saquon Barkley and added a few offensive lineman to beef up Eli Manning’s security. With Odell Beckham, Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram continuing to provide pass catching support, Eli Manning has said that, at least on paper, the Giants have a formidable offense once again. Then OBJ  released this clip of him catching footballs off the jug machine. This is an age old tale and is always shared in the off season. All I can say about this statement is that Eli said this:
